Caregiving can strain your Body & Energy root

Supporting someone else can gradually make your own rest, movement and routines feel optional. Body & Energy is one part of a life that deserves attention even when another person depends on you. Naming what support you need can be a useful first step. Consider which task could be shared, simplified or discussed with someone you trust, rather than expecting yourself to carry every demand alone.

What this is

Body & Energy is the dimension that measures whether you treat your body as a partner or as a tool. It is the quality of attention you give to sleep, movement, rest, and the signals your physical self sends before they become urgent.

A high score here looks like a consistent sense of having enough energy for what matters, the ability to rest without guilt, and a relationship with your body that is attentive rather than adversarial. A low score usually shows up as chronic fatigue that no amount of sleep fixes, a pattern of pushing through until you crash, and a growing distance between what your body needs and what you give it.

This dimension is less about fitness or health metrics and more about the fundamental question: are you living in a way your body can sustain?

Why it matters during a transition

Transitions are physically demanding. The emotional work of navigating change requires more energy, not less, at the exact moment when sleep and routines are most disrupted. People with low Body & Energy often find that their body makes the decisions for them: they run out of steam before they can take the next step, or they push through the transition so hard that recovery takes longer than the change itself.

The work here is rebuilding the foundation that every other dimension depends on. When your body has what it needs, the other five dimensions have a platform to operate from.

What working on it looks like

  • Starter: Noticing one physical signal you have been ignoring and responding to it. Going to bed at the same time for three nights. Drinking water before reaching for caffeine. Taking a five-minute break between tasks.
  • Building: Establishing a non-negotiable rest or movement practice that is not performance-based. A walk without a destination. A screen-free hour before bed. Eating a meal without multitasking. Stretching for five minutes in the morning.
  • Stretch: Redesigning a part of your routine to match your actual energy patterns rather than the schedule you think you should keep. Protecting rest as seriously as you protect work commitments.

An example task

A real Starter-level task from your library:

Full version: Scan the last 30 minutes before your usual bedtime. Write one thing that keeps you awake, then move or silence that thing tonight.

If that feels like a stretch today, the floor version is:

Floor version: Write one thing that usually keeps you awake. That is the full task.

Both count. The point is not perfect sleep hygiene. It is giving your body one signal that it matters.
