Identity report

Grief changes more than your emotions. It changes how you see yourself

Feeling lost after a loss or bereavement? Rooted's free identity report reflects back who you are right now, clearly and without judgment. 15 minutes.

Loss reshapes you at a level that is hard to articulate. The world keeps moving; you move with it but feel different inside, less certain of who you are, what matters, what you're doing here. Rooted doesn't offer comfort or advice. It offers clarity, a mirror of where you actually stand across six dimensions of your life, in your own words.

Frequently asked questions about lost sense of self after loss

Why do I feel like I lost myself after someone died?

Grief does not just take the person you loved. It can also take the version of yourself that existed in relation to them. Your routines, your sense of the future, and even your identity can feel disrupted. That is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of how deeply the relationship shaped who you were.

Is it normal to not know who I am after a loss?

Yes. Loss removes structures that held your identity in place: shared routines, roles, and plans for the future. When those disappear, the question of who you are becomes harder to answer. The disorientation is proportionate to the loss, not a sign that something is wrong with you.

How do I find myself again after grief?

You do not go back to who you were before the loss. That person existed in a world that no longer exists. The work is understanding who you are now, what strengths have survived, and what matters to you in this new reality. Rooted's free assessment gives you a clear starting point in about 15 minutes.

Can grief cause an identity crisis?

Yes. When someone central to your life dies, the identity you built around that relationship is disrupted. The roles you played, the future you imagined, and even your sense of who you are can feel uncertain. This is a normal part of grief, not a separate problem. Rooted is a self-understanding tool, not a mental health service. If you need clinical support, please contact a qualified mental health professional.
